# A year on, Global X's weighting rules have this fund holding chips, led by Micron

Micron was 13.28% of the Global X AI Semiconductor & Quantum ETF on Tuesday, September 29, against 0.57% for four quantum-computing specialists, a year after the fund listed on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

The Global X AI Semiconductor & Quantum ETF CHPX holds chip and memory companies sized by the market value of the shares the public can trade. On Tuesday, September 29, 2026, Micron, the memory-chip maker, was **13.28%** of the fund. Four quantum-computing specialists, IonQ, D-Wave Quantum, Rigetti Computing and Quantum Computing Inc., together were **0.57%**.

The fund listed on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. At the launch, Global X wrote that the index "employs a modified market cap-weighted approach, prioritizing semiconductor leaders while capping individual holdings at 10% to preserve meaningful exposure to smaller, high-growth players."

A company can get in if at least half its revenue comes from AI semiconductors, compute systems, data center equipment, or quantum computing. The rules set no minimum weight for quantum.

The 10% cap is applied only when the index resets, at the close of the last business day of May and November. Between those closes, weights change as prices change. The next reset is at the end of November.

Micron's shares rose from $167.32 at the fund's first close to $1,065.08.

Chart: **Micron** outran CHPX's other largest holdings

In the shareholder report dated Sunday, November 30, 2025, Micron was 4.4% of the fund, and no quantum-computing company was among the ten largest holdings. On the Friday, July 31, 2026 fact sheet, Micron was already 11.78% of the stock holdings, above the cap.

Global X wrote that it believed the fund's approach was "delivering exposure across key market segments that conventional semiconductor ETFs fail to address." On Tuesday, September 29, the five largest holdings were Micron, Taiwan Semiconductor, Nvidia, Broadcom and AMD. Each is also a holding in the VanEck Semiconductor ETF SMH, a fund of semiconductor makers and their equipment suppliers, and in the iShares Semiconductor ETF SOXX, a fund of the largest US-listed chip companies.

Chart: Micron is the **CHPX** overweight; Nvidia is SMH's

CHPX charges 0.50% a year, against 0.35% for SMH and 0.33% for SOXX.

## What the shares returned

From the Wednesday, October 1, 2025 close to the Tuesday, September 29 close, share returns with distributions reinvested put the fund between those two chip funds, and ahead of the Defiance Quantum ETF QTUM, a fund of quantum-computing and machine-learning companies.

Table: Fund, Share total return

From the Tuesday, June 30 close to the Monday, August 31 close, CHPX shares fell 12.9%, less than the 20.2% drop in SOXX. Over the year, SOXX still finished ahead.

A holder of this fund owns what those weighting rules deliver: the chip companies, Micron included, not a quantum portfolio.
