# Global X files to register the Global X Aluminum Miners ETF, proposed ticker ALLU

The firm liquidated its last aluminum ETF in 2012, and this Oct. 20 draft still leaves the fee, the exchange and the index rules unfinished.

By ETF.net Research. Published Oct 21, 2026.

Global X Funds filed Tuesday, Oct. 20, with the Securities and Exchange Commission to register the Global X Aluminum Miners ETF. The prospectus names a ticker, ALLU, and still treats that symbol as a proposal.

The filing is a Form 485APOS, a post-effective amendment under Rule 485(a). The trust is already effective. This amendment would add a series the trust does not yet offer.

The trust checked the box for the paperwork to become effective 75 days after filing, which falls on **Jan. 3, 2027**. That is a date for the registration, not a listing day.

"The information in this Prospectus is not complete and may be changed," the [filing](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1432353/000143235326000809/allualuminumminersetf-485a.htm) says. "The securities described herein may not be sold until the registration statement becomes effective."

The annual fee is still blank, and so is the exchange where the shares would list.

## The last aluminum fund was closed in 2012

Global X has sold an aluminum fund before. The Global X Aluminum ETF, then listed as ALUM, began operating on Jan. 4, 2011, and tracked the Solactive Global Aluminum Index.

That index followed the largest and most liquid companies active in some aspect of the aluminum industry, including bauxite mining, production or refinement. The company's [2011 annual report](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1432353/000119312512001745/d272708dncsr.htm) called the fund the first ETF in the United States focused exclusively on the aluminum industry. Rio Tinto and Alcoa were among the three largest names in the index as of Dec. 13, 2010, the firm said in its [launch announcement](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/global-x-funds-launches-first-aluminum-etf-112930384.html).

On Sept. 21, 2012, Global X [announced](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/global-x-funds-to-liquidate-4-etfs-170773026.html) it would liquidate that fund with three others. The four together were **less than 1%** of the assets of Global X Funds. The board had unanimously determined the day before that liquidation was in the best interests of the funds and their shareholders.

Trading was to stop at the end of the day on Oct. 18, and the fund was to be liquidated on Oct. 26.

The new filing would sit beside a miners fund that is already large. The Global X Copper Miners ETF, COPX, began operating on April 19, 2010, and had $7.30 billion in net assets as of Oct. 12, Global X [reports](https://www.globalxetfs.com/funds/copx).

## The index rules are still a draft

What the draft describes this time is a different index. ALLU would seek the price and yield of the Global X Aluminum Miners Index, before fees and expenses. Global X Management Company LLC, the adviser, owns that index and developed it.

The definitions of which businesses count are not final. The draft names bauxite mining, alumina refining and aluminum smelting.

Smelting, in that language, is not only the reduction of alumina into primary metal. It also covers smelting recycled aluminum scrap into secondary metal, and casting that metal into ingots, billets, slabs, sheets, rods or other primary mill products.

In that same unfinished passage, a company would need at least 50% of its revenue, in total, from the industry classifications tied to those activities. A revenue test, rather than a basket of the largest and most liquid names, is what would separate this fund from the one Global X closed. The test can still change.
