Google's parent, Alphabet, is close to paying Constellation Energy **$1 billion** or more for nuclear power over several years, Bloomberg News reported Monday night, linking the talks to technology companies seeking electricity for data centers. Microsoft, Meta and Amazon have already signed with Constellation, which Bloomberg called the biggest U.S. reactor operator.

In September 2024, Constellation agreed to a 20-year sale to Microsoft that would restart Three Mile Island Unit 1 in Pennsylvania, retired in 2019 and renamed the Crane Clean Energy Center, adding about 835 megawatts. In June 2025, it agreed to sell Meta the output of the operating Clinton plant in Illinois, 1,121 megawatts, for 20 years starting in June 2027. On Wednesday, September 30, it announced a 20-year agreement with Amazon covering 690 megawatts at Calvert Cliffs in Maryland, including about 190 megawatts of new capacity due between 2030 and 2032.

Google already has agreements that name the project. In October 2024, Kairos Power and Google set a path to 500 megawatts of new reactors by 2035, and in October 2025 NextEra Energy said Google would buy power for 25 years from the 615-megawatt Duane Arnold plant in Iowa, with another buyer taking the rest and a restart aimed at the first quarter of 2029 if regulators approve. On Monday, September 21, Georgia Power said Google would support about 96 megawatts of added output at Vogtle and Hatch, a plan that still needs approval from the Georgia Public Service Commission.

Bloomberg said Google and Constellation declined to comment, and that the exact scale and location of the capacity could not be determined. People familiar with the talks told Bloomberg an announcement could come as soon as this week. That announcement is what would name the plant.
