Tanker freight paid more than the barrel on Wednesday, and far more than energy stocks. That split, not the $100 print, ranked the session.

The S&P 500 fell **0.47%** to **7,637.70** at the close. The Dow lost 0.77%. The Nasdaq-100 fell 0.29%. The Russell 2000 dropped 1.3%. The 10-year Treasury yield was 4.83%, and iShares' long-duration Treasury fund TLT fell **0.56%**. Stocks and bonds went down together.

## Tanker freight outruns $100 Brent

Brent crude was at **$101.61**, up **3.8%**, as of 4:55 p.m. ET. West Texas Intermediate rose **3.9%** to **$96.68**. Reuters tied the push through $100 to an intensifying Middle East conflict; tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz was still under pressure.

Amplify's Breakwave Tanker Shipping ETF BWET, which holds Middle East-to-China forward freight, gained **6.0%**. That is not a one-day spike. The fund is up **30%** in five sessions and **87%** over the past month, and it closed $583.39, 3.6% shy of its 52-week high.

Those forwards track the Middle East Gulf-to-China rate for 270,000-ton tankers. That haul was $137.89 a metric ton on Tuesday, September 8, about **$711,000** a day. The Baltic's daily hire on the route was close to **$585,000** in late August and about **$344,000** in early July.

USCF's oil fund USO rose **2.7%**. State Street's energy sector fund XLE gained **0.8%**, tagged a 52-week high of $65.92, and settled at $65.31. It is up **48%** year to date.

Natural gas went the other way. The contract fell **3.8%** to **$2.805**, and USCF's natural gas fund UNG lost **3.5%**.

Physical platinum funds were the other clean winners. abrdn's physical platinum shares PPLT rose **4.2%**; GraniteShares' platinum trust PLTM rose **4.1%**. Both are still about 34% below their 52-week highs: a bounce, not a breakout. The metal itself was quoted at **$1,904**, up 2.7%.

Simplify's commodities strategy fund HARD and its larger managed-futures sibling CTA added **3.1%** and **2.9%**. Both hold Brent and copper futures.

Tanker freight led the unleveraged board.

## Meta, Signet, and the software prints

Meta Platforms rose **6.6%** to **$653.69** after launching Muse, an AI agent the company said had drawn demand past its own expectations. YieldMax's META option-income fund FBY gained **4.8%**, less than the stock, as the call overlay is built to do.

The Korean memory chipmaker's Nasdaq ADR, SK hynix, rose **7.0%** to **$198.63**, a third large session, and closed 0.6% shy of a 52-week high.

Signet Jewelers jumped **24%** to **$102.41** after reporting **$2.19** a share against a **$1.69** estimate. Sales of **$1.53 billion** were in line, and the jeweler raised its full-year profit outlook. Oddity Tech, a smaller consumer-tech name, gained **26.5%** to **$16.48** after posting **$0.20** a share against a **$0.12** estimate and lifting its 2026 outlook.

Software that guided light paid. ServiceTitan fell **30%** to **$57.12**, just above its $54.17 52-week low, after a fiscal second-quarter beat. It reported **$0.40** a share and **$292.8 million** of sales, both above estimates, then guided current-quarter sales to **$285 million–$287 million**, a touch under a **$288 million** estimate. Volume ran to 23 million shares.

Braze dropped **22%** to **$23.73** on the same pattern. It reported **$0.19** a share and **$227.2 million** of sales, both ahead of estimates, and raised full-year targets, then guided third-quarter adjusted earnings to **$0.13–$0.14**, below a **$0.16** estimate. The Bancorp fell **22%** to **$50.03** after Chime agreed to buy Stride Bank for **$590 million** and said it would consolidate banking operations there.

Small-cap crypto and defense funds gave back with the Russell 2000. Worst of them, Grayscale's Chainlink trust GLNK, fell **5.6%**.

Energy stocks did not catch the tanker fund on a $100 print. That gap closes when freight on the Middle East-to-China route eases.
