# Themes files 2x ByteDance ETFs that would start on IPO day

Themes ETF Trust on Friday, September 4, filed a 485APOS for 2x long, 2x short and 1x short ByteDance daily ETFs, proposing effectiveness 75 days after filing.

By ETF.net Research. Published Sep 7, 2026.

The three ByteDance funds Themes ETF Trust registered on Friday are written to switch on with an initial public offering. Each prospectus says the series “expects to commence operations on or about the same date as the Underlying Security commences trading in connection with its initial public offering,” and to measure that first day’s leveraged or inverse result off the IPO price. ByteDance, Ltd., which the filing describes as a technology company that operates content platforms including TikTok, is given no listing date, no ticker and no exchange. Those fields are empty brackets. ByteDance has not announced a listing date, and no public IPO registration is on file.

Themes already runs a 2x daily swap book on a famous name that did list. On June 12 the trust announced the Leverage Shares 2X Long SpaceX Daily ETF SPCH, for trading beginning June 15 on Cboe, at a **0.75%** management fee. As of Monday, SPCH held **$307 million**. It closed Friday at $9.87, down **52.7%** since that June 15 listing, with average daily dollar volume of about $306 million.

It is a daily swap book on SpaceX, not a long-term claim on the company, and the drawdown is what a 2x daily product does when the underlying moves against it. It is also evidence that a leveraged wrapper on a famous name can gather real assets. The listed Leverage Shares 2x Long ASML Daily ETF ASMG, a 2x fund on ASML Holding that has been trading since January 2025, held **$31.2 million** as of Monday at the same 0.75% fee.

The 2x-long single-stock category already runs to **179** funds. On Tuesday, August 25, Morningstar counted **63** U.S. leveraged single-stock fund closures this year against three in 2025. Daniel Sotiroff, a Morningstar analyst, said the market for these products is saturated and that there is only so much money chasing this kind of product. On July 17 the Board of Trustees of the Themes ETF Trust said it would liquidate **13** ETFs because the funds had been unable to attract sufficient assets. Those series ceased trading on July 28 and were liquidated on July 31.

A day earlier, the same trust filed an equivalent three-fund wrapper on Canva, which also has not listed.

## 2x long, 2x short and 1x short on ByteDance

Themes is adding three newly organized series: a 2x long targeting **+200%** of ByteDance common stock in one session, a 2x short targeting **-200%**, and a 1x short targeting **-100%**. No ticker is assigned, and the management fee is a blank.

Under normal circumstances, each series would invest in ByteDance common stock and financial instruments that, in combination, provide that daily multiple equal to at least **80%** of net assets. Themes Management Company, LLC would rebalance daily. Total-return swaps are among the tools, and the embedded cost of those swaps is an indirect expense left out of the fee table and the expense example.

The commercial terms are unfinished. Management fees and total annual operating expenses are printed as `[0. ]%`. Other expenses are shown as **0.00%**, and 12b-1 fees as none, under a unitary contract in which the adviser pays substantially all fund costs except its own fee, interest, taxes, brokerage, acquired-fund fees, extraordinary expenses and distribution fees. The management fee would be calculated daily and paid monthly. Because the series are newly organized, there are no operations and no financial highlights. Themes left the fee blank, so the filing does not commit to the 0.75% it charges on SPCH and ASMG.

The funds are described as short-term trading vehicles, not as a way to hold ByteDance. For any stretch longer than one trading day, the result will be the compounded product of daily returns, not **200%**, **-200%** or **-100%** of ByteDance over that stretch.

## No ByteDance listing is on the calendar

The IPO sentence is the on-switch. The 2x long, 2x short and 1x short each say that, on the first day of trading, the strategy “will be based on the Underlying Security’s IPO price.” The volatility table for ByteDance is marked N/A, with a footnote that ByteDance “commenced trading on [ ]” and therefore has no full-year annualized history. Elsewhere the prospectus says the underlying “recently commenced trading in [Month, Year]” and, as of the prospectus date, has not traded on an exchange for a one-year calendar period.

Approximate public-offering timing is “as soon as practical after the effective date of this Registration Statement.” That is not a calendar date, and it is not a ByteDance listing date. Under Rule 485(a), a series that goes effective does not automatically lapse if it never launches. The Securities and Exchange Commission asked in July whether it should automatically deregister funds that become effective but never launch, after a defined period such as six months. It has not. If ByteDance never lists, these three series sit registered and unlaunched until Themes pulls them.

The filing is Post-Effective Amendment No. 409 under the Securities Act and Amendment No. 411 under the Investment Company Act, on Form N-1A. It is marked “Subject to Completion: Dated September 4, 2026,” and it checks the Rule 485(a)(2) box: the slower path for adding new series, which the trust proposes take effect **75 days** after filing. The trust may not sell the shares until the registration statement is effective. A 485(a) amendment can still be delayed, rewritten or pulled.

Themes liquidated 13 funds in July for want of assets, in a category that has already closed 63 leveraged single-stock products this year. It now has three more series on a launchpad, waiting for a company that has not scheduled a listing.
