Waymo, the driverless-taxi company owned by Google's parent Alphabet, increased its first private loan to **$5 billion**, Bloomberg reported Tuesday afternoon, up from more than $3 billion in talks it reported on Wednesday, September 2. People familiar with the financing said Pacific Investment Management Co., known as Pimco, Blackstone and Sixth Street Partners were among the investors who participated. Bloomberg said the money is to fund growth as Waymo expands globally.

People familiar with the September talks told Bloomberg the loan would diversify Waymo's funding as the company expands its driverless fleet and faces rising artificial intelligence costs. Waymo said on Monday, September 14 that it delivers more than half a million trips a week across 15 major U.S. cities.

Octus reported on Thursday, July 16 that Waymo was seeking $2 billion to $3 billion from private lenders. People familiar with the September talks told Bloomberg the debt would have no credit rating and could price more than 500 basis points over a benchmark interest rate, a possible price for the smaller September loan, not a term reported on Tuesday.

Waymo had raised equity earlier in the year. On Monday, February 2, it said a $16 billion round valued the company at $126 billion after the new money, and that Alphabet remained the majority investor.

Waymo has not announced the loan. Bloomberg reported on Wednesday, September 2 that representatives for Waymo, Goldman Sachs, Pimco, Blackstone and Sixth Street declined to comment. Goldman Sachs was working with Waymo on the financing then.

A Waymo spokesperson had told Octus on Thursday, July 16, "We do not comment on rumor or speculation."

Bloomberg's report on Tuesday did not say whether Alphabet would have to repay the loan if Waymo could not.
