# xETFs' new Samsung ETF gives Electro-Mechanics the same weight as Samsung Electronics

BlackRock's iShares MSCI South Korea ETF, EWY, holds Samsung Electro-Mechanics at 2.73% and puts 23.72% in SK hynix, a stock the new fund leaves out.

By ETF.net Research. Published Oct 26, 2026.

Nasdaq began listing the xETFs Samsung Group ETF, SMNG, on Friday, Oct. 23. It is actively managed, and xETFs calls it the first U.S.-listed ETF focused on Samsung Group companies. Roundhill Investments has filed a Samsung Group ETF of its own. Its [website](https://www.roundhillinvestments.com/etf/sams) says the registration statement is not yet effective, and that money cannot be accepted until it is.

What a buyer gets here is Samsung Electro-Mechanics at the same weight as Samsung Electronics, and no stake in SK hynix. The South Korea funds already on the market do not offer that mix.

Samsung Electronics is set at **20%**. BlackRock's iShares MSCI South Korea ETF, EWY, held it at 22.77% on its [Sept. 30 fact sheet](https://www.ishares.com/us/literature/fact-sheet/ewy-ishares-msci-south-korea-etf-fund-fact-sheet-en-us.pdf). Franklin Templeton's Franklin FTSE South Korea ETF, FLKR, held it at 20.94% on its [fact sheet](https://www.franklintempleton.com/forms-literature/download/FLKR-FF) of the same date.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics, which makes components for chips and phones, is set at the same **20%**. On those fact sheets, EWY held it at 2.73% and FLKR at 3.78%.

SK hynix was EWY's largest holding that day, at 23.72%, and 19.90% of FLKR. It is not among the 16 Samsung Group companies on the new fund's launch list.

xETFs' [investor deck](https://www.xetfs.com/hubfs/xETFs_SMNG_Investor_Deck.pdf?hsLang=en) says the launch weights are initial targets, not limits, and that they can change.

No Samsung Group companies have U.S. listings, the [Friday release](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/10/23/3387373/0/en/xetfs-launches-first-u-s-listed-etf-focused-on-capturing-exposure-to-companies-in-the-samsung-group.html) says. A brokerage that offers Korean stocks is the other way in.

WallStreetX ETFs, which does business as xETFs, is the sub-adviser and chooses the weights. Teucrium Investment Advisors is the adviser.

SMNG charges **0.49%** after a fee cut. The [prospectus filed Oct. 20](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1683471/000089418926029497/ck0001683471-20261019.htm) sets the management fee at 0.65%. Teucrium has agreed to reduce that to 0.49% of average daily net assets until at least Oct. 20, 2027.

On the reduced fee, the new fund costs 0.1 percentage points less than the 0.59% on EWY's Sept. 30 fact sheet, and 0.4 percentage points more than the 0.09% on FLKR's fact sheet of the same date.

EWY [had $22.2 billion in net assets as of Oct. 23](https://www.ishares.com/us/products/239681/ishares-msci-south-korea-etf). FLKR had $1.79 billion on its Sept. 30 fact sheet.

The equal weights are not a ranking by size. xETFs, citing Bloomberg as of Sept. 22, put Samsung Electronics at $1.2 trillion, more than a quarter of South Korea's stock market, and Samsung Electro-Mechanics at $82 billion.

Samsung SDI, which makes rechargeable batteries for phones and electric vehicles, is the next target, at 7.5%, the release says.

The remaining names are each at 4.5% or less. They include insurers, a shipbuilder, Samsung Biologics and a hotel company.

The investor deck's own labels, not a third-party sector standard, put 47.5% in technology. That share is Samsung Electronics, Samsung Electro-Mechanics and Samsung SDI.

"While Samsung Electronics is at the center of Samsung Group, the broader investment opportunity extends beyond it," Kenneth Wong, chief investment officer of xETFs, said in the Friday release.

The release says the fund will not diversify away from the Samsung Group when the group underperforms Korean or global stocks.

The deck says the fund is not currency hedged. The prospectus says a decline in the South Korean won against the dollar can reduce the fund's dollar value even if the stocks rise in won, and that a rise in the won can increase it.
