# One YieldMax holder is far behind over the year. Another is ahead.

Over the year, the fund on Strategy Inc. paid $19.42 and lost $43.16 a share, while the fund on Advanced Micro Devices paid $32.93 and lost $5.90.

By ETF.net Research. Published Oct 25, 2026.

A holder of YieldMax MSTR Option Income Strategy ETF MSTY is behind by **$23.74** a share over the year through Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, counting the cash and not reinvesting it. From the Oct. 23, 2025 close to Friday's close, the share price fell from $57.65 to $14.49, a loss of $43.16. The 52 weekly payments between those closes totaled $19.42 a share.

The $57.65 and the $19.42 are in today's shares, after a 1-for-5 reverse split effective Dec. 5, 2025. The fund sells options on Strategy Inc., whose stock trades as MSTR.

A holder of YieldMax AMD Option Income Strategy ETF AMDY, which sells options on Advanced Micro Devices, is ahead by **$27.03** a share over the same year, counting the cash and not reinvesting it. The share price fell from $47.50 to $41.60, a loss of $5.90, and the 52 weekly payments totaled $32.93 a share. This fund also did a 1-for-5 reverse split effective Dec. 5, 2025, so those figures are in today's shares too.

From that same Oct. 23, 2025 close, YieldMax PLTR Option Income Strategy ETF PLTY, which sells options on Palantir Technologies, fell from $60.99 to Friday's $35.97. It did not split. The 52 weekly payments totaled $25.64 a share, which covered that $25.02 drop and left a holder ahead by $0.62 a share.

Chart: AMDY ended the year **highest** after starting lowest.

## Friday's payment is not a cut for every fund

YieldMax declared the week's payments on Wednesday, Oct. 21. Shares of the three funds went ex-dividend on Thursday, and the cash was paid Friday.

AMDY paid $0.3387 a share, after $0.6677 on Oct. 16 and $1.0254 on Oct. 9. Friday's check was the second straight decline, and about a third of the Oct. 9 payment.

MSTY paid $0.1671, the smallest since the $0.162 it paid on Aug. 21.

PLTY paid $0.2554. That is back between $0.22 and $0.29, the range of the five payments before the $0.5632 of Oct. 16.

YieldMax says the amounts are not guaranteed and are likely to vary greatly.

## Before Oct. 16, two funds' payments were estimated as mostly return of capital

On its pages for the [Strategy Inc. fund](https://yieldmaxetfs.com/our-etfs/msty/) and the [AMD fund](https://yieldmaxetfs.com/our-etfs/amdy/), YieldMax estimates that the Oct. 16 and Oct. 23 payments on MSTY and AMDY included no return of capital. It estimates that the three weekly payments before those were mostly return of capital, from 76% to 99%. The company says the figures are estimates and may later be classified as income, gains or return of capital.

## Neither printed yield is what a holder kept

The distribution rate beside Friday's payment is the annual rate if that one payment stayed the same. YieldMax said in [Wednesday's announcement](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/10/21/3385351/0/en/yieldmax-etfs-announces-weekly-distributions-for-group-2-etfs.html) that the rate "represents a single distribution from the ETF and does not represent its total return." The rate is as of the Oct. 20 close.

The 30-day SEC yield is net investment income, excluding option income, over the 30 days ended Sept. 30. For these three funds it runs from 0.96% to 2.28%. The window closed before October, so the figure says nothing about Friday's check, and it leaves out the option income these funds pay.

What a holder kept over the year is the price change plus the cash. The printed rates are not that figure.
