This fund multiplies its index's move each day and resets that multiple daily. Because daily returns compound, its long-run return can differ from the headline multiple.

Our read on AAPU

ETF.net Research

ATwo-times daily Apple, in a ticker. AAPU aims for 200% of AAPL's daily move without a margin account or an options screen, and it has been doing the job since 2022 at a fee below its leveraged single-stock peers' typical rate.

Stated mandate

The fund seeks daily investment results, before fees and expenses, equal to 200% of the performance of Apple Inc.'s common shares.

Why people hold it

  1. 01Simple mechanism: the fund seeks 200% of Apple's daily share performance before fees, so one trade replaces a margined AAPL position or a call spread.direxion.com
  2. 02At 0.96% a year it undercuts the typical fee in its leveraged single-stock cohort, and comes in cheaper than AAPX, the other fund built on the same Apple exposure (1.05%).
  3. 03One of the more actively traded names in a category full of thin tickers, which matters when you are trading a daily-reset product rather than holding it.
  4. 04Tracks its 2x daily target closely and ranks in the top tier of its 200-plus fund peer group on implementation quality.

Worth knowing

  1. 01The 2x target resets every day. Hold longer than a day and compounding takes over, so results over a week or a year can look very different from twice Apple's move over that stretch.
  2. 02One company, doubled. There is no diversification here: an iPhone cycle, a court ruling, or a single earnings night drives the whole position.
  3. 03Leverage costs money. The financing built into the exposure plus a 0.96% fee is a headwind the underlying stock does not carry.

AAPU Risk

This fund targets a multiple of the daily move of its index and resets daily. Hold it longer than one reset and compounding makes the return diverge from that target. In choppy markets it can lose value even when the index ends flat.

How much the fund’s monthly returns vary, scaled to a year.
42.9%
Annualised · 36 months to Aug 2026
How it’s calculated: standard deviation

The sample standard deviation of monthly total returns, multiplied by the square root of 12.

Uses up to 36 complete months, with at least 12 required. Total returns include reinvested distributions.

Return above 3-month US Treasury bills per unit of volatility.
0.60
vs 3-month T-bills · to Aug 2026
How it’s calculated: Sharpe ratio

Subtract each month’s Treasury-bill return from the fund’s monthly total return.

Divide the average of those excess returns by their sample standard deviation, then multiply by the square root of 12.

Uses up to 36 complete months, with at least 12 required. Each month uses the Treasury yield quoted at the end of the previous month.

The largest fall from a peak to the low that followed.
−58.6%
49 months · trough Apr 2025
How it’s calculated: maximum drawdown

The largest percentage decline from an earlier peak, using total returns with reinvested distributions.

Uses up to five years through the last close, with at least 12 months required.

How strongly the fund’s returns move with its asset-class index.
