Our read on AVNV

ETF.net Research

COne ticker for value stocks outside the US, developed and emerging together, screened on cheapness and profitability. Its yardstick is the MSCI ACWI ex-USA IMI Value Index, not a developed-markets-only benchmark.

Stated mandate

The fund's objective is long-term capital appreciation.

Why people hold it

  1. 01Developed and emerging markets live in the same fund, so the non-US value sleeve doesn't need a separate EM holding bolted on.
  2. 02Avantis screens on profitability as well as value, so the portfolio is built on earnings power alongside a low price, not price alone.
  3. 03Wider map, middle-of-the-pack fee: 0.36% is the median for its international value peer group, so the broader mandate doesn't come at a premium price.
  4. 04Group heavyweights fence themselves in: EFV tracks developed EAFE value, EWJV a single country. This one reaches across the whole non-US opportunity set.

Worth knowing

  1. 01It trades thinly. Spreads can be wide, and the fill you get may sit further from the fund's underlying value than with the group's household names.
  2. 02Cheaper ways to buy international value exist in the same group, notably FIVA at 0.18% and DFIV at 0.27%.
  3. 03Launched in 2023 and still a small fund, so it has a shorter track record and less scale than the established names it competes with.
