Our read on BBIN
BJPMorgan's clean international building block: roughly 600 developed-market stocks with the US and Canada left out on purpose, for seven basis points. Designed to sit beside a US core without overlap.
The fund seeks to closely track the performance of the Morningstar Developed Markets ex-North America Target Market Exposure Index before fees and expenses. It uses passive indexing and generally invests at least 80% of assets in securities included in that index.
Why people hold it
- Costs 0.07% a year, well under the typical developed-international index fund's fee.
- Strictly ex-North America, so it stacks onto a US sleeve without doubling up Canada. Roughly 600 names across developed Europe and Asia-Pacific.
- Plain index plumbing, no tilts bolted on: it has hugged its Morningstar developed-markets benchmark about as tightly as anything in its group.
- A multi-billion-dollar fund from a major issuer, part of the BetaBuilders lineup of market-cap blocks, paying shareholders quarterly.prnewswire.com
Worth knowing
- Not the cheapest door into developed international: VEA, SPDW and SCHF run at 0.03%.
- Moderately traded rather than heavily, so spreads can run wider than the category's busiest names in quiet stretches.
- One slice, not a portfolio: no US, no Canada, no emerging markets. The gaps are yours to fill.
