Our read on BSCU
BA bond fund with an end date. BSCU tracks an index of investment-grade corporate bonds that mature in 2030, holds about 400 of them, and pays monthly: bond-like maturity behavior with ETF-style diversification.
The fund seeks exposure to the Nasdaq® BulletShares® USD Corporate Bond 2030 Index.
Why people hold it
- Costs 0.10% a year, right at the going rate for target-maturity bond funds. No premium for the defined-maturity plumbing.
- Tracks the Nasdaq BulletShares USD Corporate Bond 2030 Index tightly, and it is a billion-dollar-plus fund that trades actively, so entering and exiting is rarely the hard part.
- About 400 investment-grade corporate bonds inside, with income paid monthly rather than the lumpy semiannual coupons of a single bond.
- One of the stronger builds in a crowded target-maturity field that includes iShares iBonds (IBDU) and Vanguard (VBCB).
Worth knowing
- This is corporate credit, not government paper. Before maturity, prices move with both interest rates and credit spreads; Treasury-only siblings like IBTJ skip the credit piece.
- One rung, not a ladder. A staggered maturity schedule takes several vintages (BSCT covers 2029), each bought separately.
- A few cohort peers undercut the 0.10% fee: VBCB at 0.08%, IBTJ at 0.07%, though they target different years and asset types.
