Our read on BSJT
BA junk-bond rung with a date on it. BSJT holds US high-yield corporate bonds whose effective maturities land in 2029, so you get a dated slice of credit instead of an open-ended bond fund.
The fund is designed to provide exposure to US dollar-denominated high-yield corporate bonds whose effective maturities fall in 2029.
Why people hold it
- Targets one maturity year: US dollar high-yield corporate bonds with effective maturities in 2029, the building block for a laddered bond sleeve.
- Roughly 300 bonds spread the default risk that comes with any single junk-rated issuer.
- Pays monthly, and trades with enough activity to be workable for most retail-sized orders.
- Part of Invesco's BulletShares lineup, so the 2029 rung has an investment-grade sibling (BSCT) if you want the same shape with less credit risk.
Worth knowing
- 0.42% a year, several times what plain target-maturity bond ETFs charge. High-yield research costs more, but the fee comes straight out of the yield.
- A maturity date is not a credit guarantee. High-yield issuers can default or restructure before 2029, and the dated structure does not change that.
- Sits in the lower half of a crowded target-maturity bond group, mostly on cost rather than on how it runs the portfolio.
