Our read on CSSD

ETF.net Research

CA preferred-securities specialist brings its short-duration playbook to an ETF: actively run, aimed at investment-grade institutional preferreds, and built to carry less interest-rate risk than the standard preferred fund. New in 2025 and still small.

Stated mandate

The Fund seeks total return through high current income and capital appreciation, with capital preservation as a secondary objective.

Why people hold it

  1. 01Actively managed rather than index-bound, targeting short-duration investment-grade institutional preferreds that the fund flags as a potentially tax-efficient income source.
  2. 02Short duration is the whole point: less rate sensitivity than long-dated preferred portfolios, with capital preservation written in as a secondary objective.
  3. 03The 0.49% expense ratio sits right at the preferred-fund median, and well under FPE's 0.83% for active preferred exposure.

Worth knowing

  1. 01Launched in December 2025, so there is little history to judge the strategy on inside an ETF wrapper.
  2. 02Small asset base and light trading for now, which can mean wider spreads than the category's heavyweights.
  3. 03Index-based rivals undercut it on price: EVPF at 0.20% and PFFV at 0.25%. Active management is the reason for the gap.
