Our read on DFEV

ETF.net Research

BDimensional's emerging-markets value playbook in an ETF wrapper: roughly 3,200 stocks screened for low relative price, run actively but with index-like breadth, at a fee just under the peer norm.

Stated mandate

The ETF seeks long-term capital appreciation. It uses an integrated, actively managed approach to invest in emerging-market equity securities selected for value characteristics while diversifying across countries, sectors, and companies.

Why people hold it

  1. 01Holds roughly 3,200 emerging-market stocks spread across countries and sectors, so no single name or market drives the result.
  2. 020.46% expense ratio, slightly below the median for its multifactor EM peer group, which is uncommon for an actively managed strategy.
  3. 03Active by design: managers buy on low relative price and can act between index rebalance dates rather than on someone else's calendar.
  4. 04Launched in 2022 and now a multi-billion-dollar fund; distributions are paid quarterly.

Worth knowing

  1. 01A value screen means deliberately owning less of the pricier growth names, so the ride can look very different from a plain emerging-markets index.
  2. 02Cheaper doors to the same factor exist: AVES charges 0.36% and EMGF 0.26%.
  3. 03Moderately traded rather than a category heavyweight, which can matter on large orders or choppy sessions.
