Our read on DFGX
ADimensional's answer to the boring, load-bearing part of a portfolio: roughly 700 bonds from outside the US, priced well under the typical core bond ETF. A late-2023 launch that already runs in the billions.
The fund seeks to maximize total returns through income and capital appreciation.
Why people hold it
- Charges 0.21% a year against a 0.36% median for the core bond crowd. On a bond sleeve, where returns are measured in basis points, that gap does real work.
- About 700 holdings, all in non-US fixed income, so no single issuer or country steers the whole thing.
- Stays inside its stated lane: total return from income and capital appreciation, in bonds outside the US. What the prospectus describes is what the portfolio holds.
- Lands in the upper half of a very crowded core bond field, and the data behind that read is rated high confidence.
Worth knowing
- Index rivals go cheaper: BND and SPAB at 0.03%, and BNDX covers international bonds for 0.07%. The extra cost here buys Dimensional's own portfolio construction.
- Launched in November 2023, so the track record is short by bond fund standards.
- Trades moderately rather than heavily, and cash goes out annually or semiannually, not monthly.

- −3.3%
How it’s calculated: maximum drawdown
The largest percentage decline from an earlier peak, using total returns with reinvested distributions.
