Our read on DFSI
BDimensional's take on international ESG: a roughly 2,900-stock sweep of developed markets outside the US, with sustainability screens and value and profitability tilts running through one integrated process.
The ETF seeks long-term capital appreciation. It uses an integrated investment approach to build a broadly diversified portfolio of non-U.S. developed-market companies while incorporating sustainability considerations.
Why people hold it
- Breadth over bets: roughly 2,900 developed-market stocks outside the US, spreading exposure widely rather than concentrating it in a few large names.
- The sustainability screen and the profitability and value tilts run through one integrated approach, not a screen bolted onto a finished portfolio.
- The portfolio does what the label says: non-US developed markets, sustainability screens, value and profitability tilts. One of the more faithful implementations in its peer group.
- A multi-billion-dollar fund that distributes quarterly, measured against the MSCI World ex USA IMI Index.
Worth knowing
- At 0.24% it runs just above the peer-group median, and cheaper index-built rivals exist: VSGX at 0.10%, DMXF at 0.12%.
- "Sustainability considerations" is Dimensional's own definition, not an industry standard, so the screens differ from ESG-index rivals. The prospectus spells out the criteria.
- It launched in 2022, a short record for a long-horizon strategy, and it trades at moderate volume rather than heavy.
