Our read on EIDO
CIndonesia, packaged. Since 2010 EIDO has tracked an MSCI index that runs from Jakarta's big banks down to small caps, with issuer caps that stop any one giant from swallowing the fund.
The fund seeks to track an index composed of Indonesian equities, providing targeted exposure to companies in Indonesia.
Why people hold it
- Trading since 2010 and actively traded today, it's an established US-listed way to own Indonesian stocks directly rather than through a broad emerging markets blend.ishares.com
- Its index follows MSCI's 25/50 rules: no single issuer above 25%, and all 5%-plus positions capped at 50% combined. A real guardrail in a market led by a few banks.msci.com
- IMI means investable market: roughly 70 large, mid and small caps, not just the two or three megacaps foreign investors usually reach for.ishares.com
Worth knowing
- 0.59% a year is the median for single-country emerging market ETFs, not the bargain end. The cheapest in that group, Franklin's FLMX, charges 0.19% (for Mexico).
- One country, one currency. Rupiah moves and local policy land straight in the price, and it has been among the more volatile funds in its single-country peer group.ishares.com
- On our overall read it lands in the lower half of the single-country emerging market group, mostly on that volatility plus a middle-of-the-road fee.
