Our read on FHYS
CMost high yield ETFs buy the whole junk bond index and stop there. FHYS is actively run, keeps duration short, and can reach into floating-rate loans and CLOs that index trackers leave alone.
The Fund seeks high current income.
Why people hold it
- A wider toolkit than index rivals: below investment grade corporates plus floating-rate term loans, bank loans, syndicated loans and CLOs, chosen by a manager rather than an index.
- Short duration is the whole design. Shorter bonds move less when rates move, so this dials down the rate sensitivity carried by full-maturity high yield portfolios.
- One job, stated plainly: high current income. Distributions land monthly.
- What it holds matches what the prospectus describes: US dollar denominated debt, mostly domestic issuers, with room for developed and emerging market names.
Worth knowing
- Active management carries an active price tag. At 0.61% a year it costs more than the cohort's typical fund and multiples of index peers like SCYB, SPHY and USHY.
- Modest assets and light trading volume, which usually means wider bid-ask spreads than the giant index funds in high yield.
- Launched in 2021, so its record is short next to high yield funds that have been through multiple credit cycles.
