Direxion Daily GOOGL Bear 1X ETF

Leveraged · Single-Stock Leveraged · Direxion · Inception 2022-09-07

This fund multiplies its index's move each day and resets that multiple daily. Because daily returns compound, its long-run return can differ from the headline multiple.

Our read on GGLS

ETF.net Research

AThe short side of Google, in ETF form. GGLS aims for 100% of the daily opposite of Alphabet's Class A shares: inverse, but unlevered. One of Direxion's original single-stock bear funds, launched in 2022.

Stated mandate

The fund seeks daily investment results equal to 100% of the inverse of the performance of Alphabet Inc. Class A shares, before fees and expenses.

Why people hold it

  1. 01Straight inverse, no amplifier. It targets 100% of the opposite of GOOGL's daily move, so a bearish view here doesn't arrive with 2x or 3x attached.direxion.com
  2. 02Expense ratio of 1.20%, in the same band Direxion charges on its other 1x single-stock bear funds such as AAPD and MSFD.
  3. 03Hitting the daily target is the strong suit: it has tracked the one-day inverse of GOOGL tightly, one of the sturdier implementations among inverse single-stock funds.
  4. 04Launched in the September 2022 batch that first brought bull and bear single-stock ETFs on Google, Amazon and Microsoft to US investors, so it has a multi-year live record.prnewswire.com

Worth knowing

  1. 01The objective resets daily. Hold longer and compounding takes over, so multi-day results can drift from the simple inverse of GOOGL, most of all when the stock is choppy.direxion.com
  2. 02One stock, zero diversification. An Alphabet earnings night or a single AI headline is the whole story here.direxion.com
  3. 03It trades every session, but this is a small, niche fund next to the household-name inverse products, so spreads and order type carry more weight.

GGLS Risk

This fund targets a multiple of the daily move of its index and resets daily. Hold it longer than one reset and compounding makes the return diverge from that target. In choppy markets it can lose value even when the index ends flat.

How much the fund’s monthly returns vary, scaled to a year.
29.3%
Annualised · 36 months to Aug 2026
How it’s calculated: standard deviation

The sample standard deviation of monthly total returns, multiplied by the square root of 12.

Uses up to 36 complete months, with at least 12 required. Total returns include reinvested distributions.

−1.13
vs 3-month T-bills · to Aug 2026
How it’s calculated: Sharpe ratio

Subtract each month’s Treasury-bill return from the fund’s monthly total return.

Divide the average of those excess returns by their sample standard deviation, then multiply by the square root of 12.

Uses up to 36 complete months, with at least 12 required. Each month uses the Treasury yield quoted at the end of the previous month.

The largest fall from a peak to the low that followed.
−81.3%

How it’s calculated: maximum drawdown

The largest percentage decline from an earlier peak, using total returns with reinvested distributions.
