Our read on GSID
CGoldman's plain passport to the rest of the developed world: roughly 900 large and mid caps outside the US and Canada, no tilts, no theme, just the index. The trade-off is a fee above the category's cheap core.
The Fund seeks to track, before fees and expenses, the Solactive GBS Developed Markets ex North America Large & Mid Cap Index.
Why people hold it
- Market beta by design. It tracks a broad Solactive developed ex-North America index and sticks to that mandate instead of drifting into tilts or active bets.
- Roughly 900 large and mid cap names, so no single stock or country steers the fund.
- A multi-billion-dollar fund from a major issuer, running since 2020 and paying quarterly.
Worth knowing
- The fee is the main trade-off: 0.25% a year, while core rivals VEA, SPDW and SCHF each charge 0.03%.
- Thinly traded next to the category's giants, so spreads can run wider, especially outside US market hours.
- Developed markets only. No US, no Canada, no emerging markets, so it is a slice of a portfolio rather than the whole thing.
