Our read on GTR

ETF.net Research

In short

CNot an income fund wearing a global badge. GTR buys calls 15% in-the-money and sells calls 15% out-of-the-money on a basket of US, developed and emerging market equity ETFs, boxing global stock exposure into a defined range.

Stated mandate

The actively managed Fund seeks capital appreciation and secondarily hedges risk. It generally seeks exposure similar to the TOPS Global Equity Target Range Index, a systematic cash-secured call-spread strategy, although returns may differ as assets enter and leave the Fund.

Why people hold it

  • The whole strategy in one line: long calls 15% in-the-money, short calls 15% out-of-the-money, cash as collateral. A band around global equities instead of a yield overlay.wisdomtree.com
  • Global by design. The spreads sit on four ETFs covering US, developed market and emerging market large and mid caps, not one home-country index.globenewswire.com
  • At 0.70% a year it comes in under the median fee for its options-overlay peer group, and the overall build lands in the upper half of that group.

Worth knowing

  • Thinly traded and modest in size, so bid-ask spreads can be wide and bigger orders can push the price around.
  • The short call 15% out-of-the-money caps participation once markets run past it, and the long call sets a floor on the option position, not full downside protection.wisdomtree.com
  • Actively managed, not a strict tracker: WisdomTree says the fund's exposure can differ from the TOPS Global Equity Target Range Index as money flows in and out.wisdomtree.com
