Our read on IUSG
AGrowth for four basis points. IUSG tracks the S&P 900 Growth Index: roughly 400 large and mid cap U.S. companies picked for growth traits, in a fund that has been running since 2000.
The Fund seeks to track an index of large- and mid-capitalization U.S. equities exhibiting growth characteristics.
Why people hold it
- 0.04% a year, about $4 per $10,000, ties the cheapest fee among the strongest-graded funds in its peer group, VYM included.
- Large and mid cap growth in one ticket, roughly 400 names, screened on growth and momentum measures rather than a single yardstick.ishares.com
- It has tracked its index closely and trades actively at multi-billion-dollar scale, which keeps the cost of getting in and out small.
- Running since 2000, so the record spans the dot-com unwind, 2008 and 2022. Few style funds have that much road behind them.
Worth knowing
- Growth screens crowd into the market's largest tech and consumer names, so a small group of megacaps carries a lot of the weight.
- One-sided by design: no value or dividend names in the mix, and the growth style has gone through long stretches out of favor.
- Distributions arrive quarterly, but growth companies tend to reinvest their cash. Income is a byproduct here, not the mandate.
