Our read on RNEM
CFirst Trust's emerging-markets entry: roughly 300 EM stocks in a rules-based basket tracking an index that carries risk-analytics firm Riskalyze's name. A boutique-sized outsider in a category ruled by cheap, giant index funds.
The Fund seeks to track, before fees and expenses, the price and yield performance of the Nasdaq Riskalyze Emerging MarketsTM Index. It normally invests at least 90% of assets in the common stocks and depositary receipts included in that index.
Why people hold it
- Wide net: about 300 emerging-market names, with at least 90% of assets in the index's stocks and depositary receipts. Published rules pick the book, not a manager's hunch.ftportfolios.com
- Trading since 2017, so it carries a multi-year record through real emerging-market weather rather than one flattering stretch.
- Income arrives on a set quarterly schedule, and the portfolio stays in listed shares and depositary receipts. No derivatives layer to decode.
Worth knowing
- The 0.76% fee runs above the 0.65% median for its emerging-markets group, and the highest-rated peers (AVEM at 0.33%, DFEM at 0.39%) charge about half or less.
- A small fund that trades thinly, so bid-ask spreads can run wider than the category's household names.
- The benchmark is a bespoke Nasdaq Riskalyze index, not a standard EM yardstick, so there is less outside history to size it up against.ftportfolios.com
