Our read on SAMT

ETF.net Research

BMost active global funds spread bets across hundreds of names. SAMT picks three to five macro trends, buys roughly 50 mostly US stocks to express them, and rewrites the list when the trends change.

Stated mandate

The Fund seeks long-term capital appreciation through active investment principally in U.S. common stocks associated with three to five macro-thematic trends. The Adviser uses technical, fundamental, qualitative, and quantitative analysis and may adjust the portfolio as trends change.

Why people hold it

  1. 01One idea, repeated: three to five macro themes expressed through roughly 50 mostly US stocks, with the portfolio adjusted as those trends change.
  2. 02At 0.65% a year, it charges less than the median fund in its active global-equity cohort, which is unusual for a concentrated theme-driven strategy.
  3. 03Moderately traded with a few hundred million in assets, and it has been running since a 2022 launch rather than arriving with the latest theme cycle.
  4. 04On our overall read it lands in the upper half of its active global-equity peer group.

Worth knowing

  1. 01Concentration cuts both ways. With roughly 50 names behind a handful of themes, one theme going the wrong way moves the whole fund.
  2. 02It sits in a global cohort but invests principally in US common stocks, so it is not the international diversifier the peer label implies.
  3. 03Cheaper cohort options exist (GSWO at 0.15%, DFAW at 0.24%). The fee here buys theme selection and turnover, not index exposure.
