Our read on TDTF
BMost TIPS funds hand you whatever duration the inflation-linked market happens to carry. TDTF tracks an index built around a five-year duration target, keeping its rate sensitivity parked mid-curve by design.
The Fund seeks to track the price and yield performance of the iBoxx 5-Year Target Duration TIPS Index before fees and expenses.
Why people hold it
- The point of the thing: a five-year target duration index, not the shifting maturity mix of the whole TIPS market.
- Straight passive plumbing. It aims to track the price and yield of its index before fees, using US inflation-protected Treasuries.
- Trading since 2011 with over a billion dollars in assets, so this is a seasoned fund rather than a recent launch chasing a theme.
Worth knowing
- 0.19% a year is above the Treasury-fund median of 0.12%, and broad TIPS rivals like SCHP charge 0.03%. The duration targeting is what you pay up for.
- Inflation protection is not price stability. A five-year duration still moves when real yields move, in both directions.
- Payouts are irregular rather than a steady monthly rhythm, and trading is moderate rather than deep, so limit orders are worth using.

How it’s calculated: standard deviation
