Score 40 of 100 sits in the C band. Bands: A ≥ 70, B ≥ 55, C ≥ 40, D ≥ 25, F < 25; the scale skips E. A structural cap ceilings this fund at 40, so B and A are out of reach.

Our read on TINT
CA rare pure play on smart materials: roughly 30 global companies pulled from the Solactive Smart Materials Index. Launched in 2021, narrow by design, and one of the few tickers built around this corner of materials science.
ProShares Smart Materials ETF seeks pre-expense returns that track the Solactive Smart Materials Index. It normally invests at least 80% of assets in index components or economically similar instruments.
Why people hold it
- Concentration is the point. Roughly 30 global names means the theme actually shows up in the portfolio instead of getting diluted inside a 500-stock index.
- The theme is written into the documents, not left to a manager's mood: normally at least 80% of assets sit in components of the Solactive Smart Materials Index.
- Fee of 0.58% lands within a hair of the typical global thematic fund, even though the mandate covers a far narrower slice of the market.
- Index-tracking equity fund in a plain 1940 Act wrapper, with income paid on a quarterly schedule. No derivatives overlay, no leverage dial.
Worth knowing
- A small fund that trades lightly. Bid-ask spreads run wider than on a broad index ETF, and getting in or out in size is less forgiving.
- About 30 stocks in one narrow theme: single-company news lands hard, and a theme like this can sit out of favor for long stretches.
- On cost, broader global thematic options undercut it sharply. Invesco's KLMT runs 0.10% and IQSZ 0.19% against this fund's 0.58%.
