Our read on TSLS
AThe plain short on Tesla: TSLS aims for -1x the stock's daily move, with no leverage stacked on top. Among the small group of Tesla bear funds, it is the cheapest, and the one that dials risk down rather than up.
The Fund seeks daily inverse investment results by maintaining short exposure to TSLA of approximately -100% of its net assets and generally rebalancing that exposure each trading day.
Why people hold it
- Cheapest of the Tesla short funds at 0.95%, undercutting TSDD (1.13%) and TSLZ (1.05%), and running well below the typical inverse single-stock ETF.
- Inverse, not leveraged inverse. One unit of short Tesla exposure per dollar, which keeps daily compounding drag milder than the -2x versions of the same trade.direxion.com
- Trading since 2022 and one of the stronger implementations in the inverse single-stock crowd, with enough daily volume to make in-and-out trading practical.
Worth knowing
- Exposure resets every trading day. Over any stretch longer than a day, Tesla's volatility compounds and results can drift well away from -1x the stock's move.direxion.com
- Direxion calls it a short-term trading vehicle that is not appropriate for investors who will not actively monitor it.sec.gov
- One company, one story. An earnings print, a product event or a headline about its CEO moves the whole position.

TSLS Risk
This fund targets a multiple of the daily move of its index and resets daily. Hold it longer than one reset and compounding makes the return diverge from that target. In choppy markets it can lose value even when the index ends flat.
- 53.5%
How it’s calculated: standard deviation
The sample standard deviation of monthly total returns, multiplied by the square root of 12.
Uses up to 36 complete months, with at least 12 required. Total returns include reinvested distributions.
- −0.53
How it’s calculated: Sharpe ratio
Subtract each month’s Treasury-bill return from the fund’s monthly total return.
Divide the average of those excess returns by their sample standard deviation, then multiply by the square root of 12.
Uses up to 36 complete months, with at least 12 required. Each month uses the Treasury yield quoted at the end of the previous month.
- −90.7%
How it’s calculated: maximum drawdown
The largest percentage decline from an earlier peak, using total returns with reinvested distributions.
Uses up to five years through the last close, with at least 12 months required.
- −1.41
How it’s calculated: beta
The beta figure is supplied by FMP. The comparison index depends on the fund’s broad asset class.
