Tanker ETF gains 8.4% as crude falls

Amplify's tanker-freight fund BWET gained 8.4% to $786.73 as WTI crude fell 3.5% to $102.13, reversing most of Tuesday's 4.4% jump to $105.83.

The Federal Reserve raised its target range a quarter point to 3.75%–4.00%, the first increase since 2023, and lifted its median year-end 2026 funds-rate projection to 4.1% from 3.8% in June. The S&P 500 closed 0.43% lower, at 7,553.33. The Nasdaq Composite was unchanged.

Breakwave tanker fund rises as WTI drops

The fund holds Middle East-to-China and West Africa tanker futures, not the oil. It had fallen 5.7% Tuesday. The five-session gain is now 35%. The one-month gain is 107%. Same split as Friday's double-digit session: the ships paid, the barrel did not.

Photonics funds rise after Ciena's 30% target

Ciena set a target of about 30% compound annual revenue growth from 2026 through 2029 at its investor forum Wednesday. Benzinga reported Lumentum Holdings rose in sympathy with fiber-optic peers after the targets. Lumentum gained 9.6% to $919.40, recapturing Monday's 9.9% drop. Ciena itself closed 1.8% higher. Coherent gained 6.9% to $289.93 after Monday's 12.7% decline and is still down 17% over one month.

Roundhill Photonics & Optics ETF LYTE rose 6.4%. Lumentum and Coherent are 28% of that fund as filed and accounted for about 2.3 percentage points of the gain; a Treasury bill is the largest holding, at 34%. Tema Photonics & Optical ETF LAZR added 4.9%. Tuttle Capital Pure Play Photonics ETF FOTO, mostly cash and swaps on optical stocks, added 3.7%. Spear Alpha ETF SPRX, which holds both optical names plus Astera Labs, rose 3.1%. Astera Labs gained 6.6%.

Energy producers reverse; J.B. Hunt falls 13.3%

Seven of the ten worst unleveraged funds were energy-producer portfolios.

Producer funds besides FCG ran from −4.8% to −3.7%.

First Trust Natural Gas ETF FCG fell 5.6%, more than crude and far more than natural-gas futures, which were down 1.0%. The fund holds producers such as ConocoPhillips and EOG Resources, not the gas contract. It had risen 2.6% Tuesday. State Street's S&P Oil & Gas Exploration & Production ETF XOP, the $4.17 billion producer book, fell 4.0% and more than reversed Tuesday's 3.2% gain. By comparison, the broad energy sector fund, State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF XLE, fell 2.8%.

J.B. Hunt Transport Services fell 13.3% to $236.73 on more than four times average volume. Chief financial officer Brad Delco said third-quarter earnings would drop 5% to 10% from the second quarter, with about $25 million of extra driver costs and at least $10 million of fuel expense. iShares U.S. Transportation ETF IYT lost 2.0%.

Single-stock option funds followed their underlyings. YieldMax HOOD Option Income Strategy ETF HOOY fell 5.0% as Robinhood dropped 5.5% after prosecutors reportedly charged two former engineers over crypto trades. YieldMax COIN Option Income Strategy ETF CONY lost 3.9% as Coinbase fell 4.4%, a day after the Senate stalled a crypto bill and XRP funds dropped 12%.

iShares Turkey falls 6.6% after Tera misses redemptions

iShares MSCI Turkey ETF TUR dropped 6.6% to $36.18, the session's worst unleveraged fund. Volume ran more than three times its average. Tera Portfoy Yonetimi said two of its funds, with a combined 366 billion liras ($7.5 billion) in assets, failed to meet redemption requests, Bloomberg reported. It was the second Turkish manager this week after Pusula Portfoy missed payments. Atlas Portfoy said it would limit redemptions on one of its funds. Turkish stocks fell more than 5%. The five-session loss in TUR is 11.3%. Turkey's Financial Stability Committee is scheduled to meet Thursday morning.
