APRJCInnovator Premium Income 30 Barrier ETF

CSHIANeos Enhanced Income Cash Alternative ETF

In short

APRJ Most income ETFs sell calls and let the payout float with volatility. APRJ sets its distribution rate up front for each outcome period, pays quarterly, and puts a 30% barrier between S&P 500 price losses and the fund's value.

CSHI A T-bill sleeve with a side hustle. CSHI parks in 1-3 month Treasuries and sells S&P 500 index puts on top, paying monthly. In a peer group built on stocks plus options, it is the cash-first one.

Stated mandate

APRJ The fund seeks to provide a defined distribution rate over each outcome period, while limiting exposure to S&P 500 Price Return Index losses up to a 30% barrier; losses beyond that barrier reduce the fund's value.

CSHI The Fund seeks monthly income by investing in 1-3 month Treasury bills or related ETFs and using S&P 500 Index put options to generate additional income.

Why people hold it

  • APRJ The income is defined, not discovered: a target rate set at the start of each outcome period, paid quarterly, so the schedule is known before you own it.
  • The 30% barrier is a deep line by design. S&P 500 price losses up to it don't reduce the fund's value; the protection is written into the outcome period, not hoped for.
  • Payout comes from a defined-outcome options contract on the index rather than month-to-month call premiums, so it isn't set by whatever volatility happens to pay that quarter.
  • CSHI Charges 0.38% a year, below the 0.60% median for its options-income cohort and cheaper than buy-write mainstays like XYLD (0.60%).
  • Two income engines: interest from 1-3 month Treasury bills, plus premium collected from selling S&P 500 index put options. Distributions land monthly.neosfunds.com
  • Running since 2022, now a multi-billion-dollar fund that trades actively, and one of the strongest implementations in its peer group.

Worth knowing

  • APRJ At 0.79%, it runs above the 0.60% median for S&P 500 income funds, and cheaper peers exist (IVVW at 0.25%, RSPA at 0.32%, BALI at 0.35%).
  • A barrier is a cliff, not a cushion: once index losses pass 30%, the fund's value takes the hit, and the reference is a price index, so dividends aren't in the math.
  • Part of the distribution can be return of capital (your own money back), and the fund is small and lightly traded, so limit orders earn their keep.
  • CSHI Selling index puts imports equity risk. A sharp S&P 500 drop can cost the options side money, so this moves less predictably than a plain Treasury bill fund.neosfunds.com
  • Income is variable by design, riding short-term Treasury rates and option premium levels rather than a fixed coupon.
  • Its cohort is mostly S&P 500 stock-plus-options funds, while CSHI's core is Treasuries. Side-by-side yield comparisons are not apples to apples.
