BBBSCBondBloxx BBB Rated 1-5 Year Corporate Bond ETF

IGSBAiShares 1-5 Year Investment Grade Corporate Bond ETF

In short

BBBS Most investment-grade bond funds blend AAA down to BBB. BBBS takes only the bottom rung, BBB rated corporates, and caps maturities under five years. A ratings dial you set yourself, not a grab bag.

IGSB Corporate credit with the rate risk dialed down: roughly 4,700 investment-grade bonds, none maturing past five years, for four basis points. iShares has run it since 2007.

Stated mandate

BBBS The Fund seeks to track the Bloomberg US Corporate BBB 1-5 Year Index, which represents taxable, fixed-rate, U.S. dollar-denominated BBB corporate bonds with remaining maturities from one to less than five years.

IGSB The fund seeks to track an index containing U.S. dollar-denominated investment-grade corporate bonds with remaining maturities from one through five years.

Why people hold it

  • BBBS One job, done narrowly: the index covers taxable, fixed-rate, dollar-denominated BBB corporate bonds maturing in one to under five years. Credit tier and maturity are both pinned down.
  • Short maturities mean far less rate sensitivity than long-dated corporate funds, and the basket spreads across many issuers rather than leaning on a handful.
  • Sits in the upper half of a crowded investment-grade corporate field of dozens of ETFs, and it tracks its stated Bloomberg index closely.
  • IGSB Four basis points a year, a fraction of the typical investment-grade corporate bond fund's fee and level with the cheapest tier of its peer group.
  • One-to-five-year maturities mean prices move less when rates move than long-dated corporate funds. Same corporate credit, shorter leash.ishares.com
  • Thousands of individual bonds tracking the ICE BofA 1-5 Year US Corporate Index, with income paid monthly.ishares.com
  • Trading since 2007, actively traded, and one of the strongest builds in the investment-grade corporate group on cost, portfolio and execution.

Worth knowing

  • BBBS The 0.19% fee is typical for investment-grade corporate ETFs, but broad short-term peers like IGSB and SPIB charge a small fraction of that for a wider credit mix.
  • BBB is the last rung before high yield. Isolating it means more credit sensitivity than an all-grade fund that dilutes with AAA and AA paper.
  • A small, thinly traded fund launched in 2024, so spreads can run wider than at the giants and distributions have not settled into a fixed rhythm.
  • IGSB Short maturities cut both ways: less price damage when rates rise, less lift when they fall.
  • These are company bonds, not Treasuries. Investment grade, but credit spreads can widen and prices move with them.
  • Only the front of the curve. Sibling IGIB runs 5-10 years and USIG spans broad maturities, both at the same fee.

How we measure overlap

Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
