CCSB—Carbon Collective Short Duration Green Bond ETF

SPSBAState Street SPDR Portfolio Short Term Corporate Bond ETF

In short

CCSB Most short-duration corporate bond ETFs buy whatever the index holds. CCSB screens for bonds whose proceeds are earmarked for climate work, verified by ICMA labeling or the Climate Bonds Standard, and picks them actively.

SPSB The short end of the corporate bond market, bought wholesale: roughly 1,600 investment-grade corporate bonds maturing in one to three years, for four basis points. Built as a cash-adjacent building block, not a yield swing.

Stated mandate

CCSB The Fund seeks maximum total return while preserving capital through prudent investment management.

SPSB The fund seeks to track the price and yield performance of the Bloomberg U.S. 1-3 Year Corporate Bond Index before fees and expenses.

Why people hold it

  • CCSB The green label has teeth: at least 80% of assets in bonds self-labeled under ICMA guidelines or certified to the Climate Bonds Standard, not an issuer's general ESG claim.sec.gov
  • Two sub-advisers split the work: Artesian Capital Management runs the bond book, Carbon Collective runs the climate screen. Selection is a judgment call, not an index rule.sec.gov
  • Sits at the calmer end of the bond aisle by design: weighted-average investment grade credit (BBB- or better) and average duration under five years, which damps rate sensitivity.sec.gov
  • Pays income monthly rather than quarterly.
  • SPSB Costs 0.04% a year against a 0.19% median for investment-grade corporate bond funds. At the short end, where yields are thin, that gap is a real slice of what you keep.
  • Nothing in the index matures past three years, so rate moves push the price around less than they do at intermediate corporate funds like SPIB or VCIT.ssga.com
  • Roughly 1,600 bonds, market-cap weighted, reconstituted at each month end, with a $300 million minimum issue size. Income arrives monthly.ssga.com
  • Trading since 2009 and now a multi-billion-dollar fund that changes hands actively, one of the sturdier implementations in its peer group.

Worth knowing

  • CCSB Costs 0.50% a year against a 0.15% short investment-grade median, and index peers like VCSH and SCHJ (0.03%) deliver plain short-corporate exposure for pennies.
  • Small and thinly traded, so spreads and limit orders matter more here than with the category's giants.
  • Launched in 2024, so the track record is short, and an active green mandate can look quite different from a broad short-corporate index.sec.gov
  • SPSB Pure corporate credit, no Treasury ballast. Investment-grade paper still reprices when spreads widen, short maturities or not.ssga.com
  • Bonds roll off fast and get replaced at whatever the market pays, so the income stream follows prevailing rates in both directions.ssga.com
  • The manager samples the index rather than buying every bond in it, so the portfolio can drift modestly from the benchmark.sec.gov

How we measure overlap

Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
