CLODCThemes Cloud Computing ETF

WCLDBWisdomTree Cloud Computing Fund

In short

CLOD Cloud computing, stripped down to the cheap version: about 50 names from the Solactive Cloud Computing Index for 0.35% a year. The trade-off is scale, since this is a small, thinly traded fund next to the category's veterans.

WCLD Cloud software, undiluted: about 70 emerging cloud names, chosen twice a year by venture firm Bessemer and weighted equally, so the smallest holding carries the same load as the biggest.

Stated mandate

CLOD The fund passively seeks to track, before fees and expenses, an index of companies operating in cloud computing. It generally invests at least 80% of its assets in index constituents or related ADRs and GDRs.

WCLD The Fund seeks to track, before fees and expenses, the price and yield performance of the BVP Nasdaq Emerging Cloud Index.

Why people hold it

  • CLOD At 0.35% a year it prices below the typical cloud ETF, and under bigger rivals like SKYY and WCLD for broadly similar shelf space.themesetfs.com
  • No stock-picking drama. It passively tracks the Solactive Cloud Computing Index and keeps at least 80% of assets in that basket or related depositary receipts.themesetfs.com
  • It has stayed close to the index it advertises, which is the entire job description for a passive fund.
  • WCLD Equal weight by design. Every name resets to the same slice at each reconstitution, so one runaway winner can't quietly become the whole fund.nasdaqomx.com
  • The screen has teeth: joining takes 15%+ revenue growth in each of the last two years, and staying takes at least 7%. Slow growers get shown the door.nasdaqomx.comnasdaqomx.com 2
  • At 0.45% a year it sits under the cohort median and well under First Trust's SKYY at 0.60%.
  • Actively traded since its 2019 launch, so orders aren't riding on thin, sporadic volume.

Worth knowing

  • CLOD A small asset base and light trading mean wider spreads than the category heavyweights. Some of the fee savings can come back out at the trade.
  • Launched December 2023, so the track record is short beside the long-standing cloud funds.
  • About 50 developed-market stocks in one theme. It moves with enterprise software sentiment, not the broad market.
  • WCLD Pure-play cloud software with no mega-cap ballast. This is among the more volatile funds in its peer group, and sector drawdowns land hard.bvp.com
  • One theme, roughly 70 stocks. When enterprise software is out of favor, there is nowhere inside the portfolio to hide.
  • Cheaper cloud tickers exist (FCLD at 0.39%, CLOD at 0.35%), though they follow different indexes with different holdings. No distributions recently either.

How we measure overlap

Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
