FCORCFidelity Corporate Bond ETF

USIGAiShares Broad USD Investment Grade Corporate Bond ETF

In short

FCOR Fidelity's in-house take on corporate credit: roughly 400 investment-grade corporate bonds picked without a declared index to follow, with income paid out monthly. The trade-off is price, in a category where the index giants charge pennies.

USIG Most investment-grade corporate bond funds hand you one slice of the maturity curve. USIG takes the whole thing, thousands of US dollar corporate bonds from short-dated to long, for four basis points a year.

Stated mandate

FCOR The fund seeks a high level of current income and normally invests at least 80% of its assets in investment-grade corporate bonds and related corporate debt securities.

USIG The fund seeks to track an index of U.S. dollar-denominated investment-grade corporate bonds.

Why people hold it

  • FCOR Does exactly what the label says: at least 80% of assets in investment-grade corporate bonds and related corporate debt, with current income as the stated goal.fidelity.com
  • Roughly 400 bonds under the hood and a monthly distribution schedule, so income lands on a regular cadence instead of quarterly.
  • No declared index behind it. The portfolio reflects Fidelity's own credit calls rather than a benchmark's rulebook, and it has stayed tight to its stated corporate mandate.
  • Launched in 2014, so this is a seasoned fund with a full credit cycle behind it, not a recent product-shelf addition.
  • USIG Costs 0.04% a year, against a category median near 0.19%. CORP, which tracks the same ICE BofA US Corporate Index, charges 0.41%.
  • One ticker, the full USD investment-grade corporate curve: thousands of bonds, short to long. Slice funds like IGSB (1-5 year) and IGIB (5-10 year) each cover one segment.ishares.com
  • Running since 2007, it has tracked its index with very little drift and is one of the more actively traded funds in its category.
  • Interest lands monthly, and this is a multi-billion-dollar fund that ranks among the strongest implementations in its peer group.

Worth knowing

  • FCOR The 0.36% expense ratio is the headline trade-off: the biggest indexed rivals in this space, VCIT and USIG, charge 0.03% and 0.04%.
  • Trades lightly next to the category's heavyweights, which can mean wider bid-ask spreads, especially on larger orders.
  • Add up cost and trading friction and it sits in the lower half of the investment-grade corporate bond field on our read.
  • USIG Owning the whole curve means long-dated bonds ride along, so the price swings more when rates move than a short-maturity slice such as IGSB.
  • This is corporate credit, not Treasuries. Investment grade at purchase, but prices can fall when spreads widen or an issuer is downgraded.ishares.com
  • VCIT edges it on fee at 0.03%, though that fund stays in intermediate maturities rather than the full curve.

How we measure overlap

Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
