Our read on each fund

ITMA
In short
FIMU Not a new fund so much as a new door into an old one: FIMU is an ETF share class of Fidelity's actively managed intermediate muni strategy, holding the same bonds, run by the same managers, carrying the same track record.
ITM Most big muni ETFs buy the whole curve. ITM, running since 2007, sticks to the middle: a passive, AMT-free national index of roughly 1,400 bonds, paid out monthly, for 0.18% a year.
Stated mandate
FIMU The fund seeks a high level of current income exempt from federal income tax while preserving capital. It normally invests at least 80% of assets in investment-grade municipal securities and maintains a dollar-weighted average maturity of 3 to 10 years.
ITM The fund seeks to track the price and yield performance of the ICE Intermediate AMT-Free Broad National Municipal Index before fees and expenses.

How we measure overlap
Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
