FLINAFranklin FTSE India ETF

GINDBGoldman Sachs India Equity ETF

In short

FLIN Franklin's India fund runs the whole large- and mid-cap market at 0.19% a year, a fraction of what most India ETFs charge. Same country, same index-tracking job, cheaper meter running.

GIND Goldman's 2025 arrival in a crowded India aisle: roughly 110 Indian companies in one ticker, priced at the category's going rate. The stated goal on the tin is long-term capital appreciation, not index-hugging.

Stated mandate

FLIN The fund seeks to track, before fees and expenses, the performance of the FTSE India RIC Capped Index.

GIND The Fund seeks long-term capital appreciation.

Why people hold it

  • FLIN Charges 0.19% a year, well under the typical India ETF fee and under every other top-scoring fund in the group, including INDA, INDY and SMIN.
  • Tracks the FTSE India RIC Capped Index with very little slippage, one of the tightest index-following records among India funds.
  • Roughly 240 Indian stocks in one ticker, plus a billion-dollar-plus asset base and steady daily trading, so spreads stay manageable for ordinary orders.
  • Live since 2018, giving it a multi-year track record through India's boom and its drawdowns rather than a fresh-off-the-line prospectus.
  • GIND One ticker holds roughly 110 Indian companies, a broad slice of the market rather than a short list of familiar names.
  • The 0.75% fee lands right at the median for US-listed India funds, not at a new-launch premium.
  • Stays in its lane. Portfolio and prospectus agree: Indian equities, full stop, with no drift into adjacent markets.
  • Sits in the upper half of the US-listed India funds we cover, a shelf that includes long-established giants like INDA and INDY.

Worth knowing

  • FLIN One country, one currency. Indian politics, rates and a moving rupee land directly in the price, with no other market to cushion the swing.
  • The RIC Capped index trims oversized positions to meet US fund diversification rules, so returns can drift from an uncapped India benchmark.
  • Distributions come annually or semiannually, and Indian large caps are not a high-payout market. This is a growth-exposure tool, not an income stream.
  • GIND Cheaper shelf-mates exist: FLIN at 0.19%, INDA at 0.61%. That fee gap is the bar this portfolio has to clear.
  • Launched in 2025, so the record is short and the asset base modest. Trading has been light, which tends to mean wider spreads than the aisle's veterans.
  • One country, one currency. Indian stocks and the rupee drive the whole result, with no other market in the mix to cushion a rough stretch.

How we measure overlap

Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
