FTIFCFirst Trust Bloomberg Inflation Sensitive Equity ETF

HOMZBHoya Capital Housing ETF

In short

FTIF Most inflation exposure arrives as TIPS or a commodity futures roll. FTIF stays in stocks: about 50 US names selected by Bloomberg's inflation-sensitivity index rules. An equity-shaped answer to an inflation question.

HOMZ Most housing ETFs pick a lane: homebuilders or apartment REITs. HOMZ buys the whole chain, landlords, builders, home-improvement retailers and housing finance and tech names, sizing each segment by its share of GDP.

Stated mandate

FTIF The Fund seeks to track the Bloomberg Inflation Sensitive Equity Index before fees and expenses, normally investing at least 80% of assets in its component common stocks.

HOMZ The Fund seeks to track the performance of the Hoya Capital Housing 100TM Index before fees and expenses.

Why people hold it

  • FTIF One idea, narrowly built: roughly 50 US common stocks drawn from Bloomberg's Inflation Sensitive Equity Index, with at least 80% of assets in those components.ftportfolios.com
  • Rules pick the names, not a manager's read on the next CPI print. It tracks a published index rather than trading on a view.
  • The 0.60% expense ratio lands near the middle of the thematic crowd, not the premium end where niche ideas often price themselves.
  • Because the exposure is plain equity, there is no futures roll or bond duration in the machinery. Distributions come quarterly.
  • HOMZ Four housing segments in one ticker: rental operators, builders, home improvement and furnishings, and housing finance, tech and services, each sized by its contribution to GDP rather than market cap.sec.gov
  • The 2019 original: launched as the first ETF offering diversified exposure across the entire US housing sector, and still tracking the index its adviser built.prnewswire.com
  • 0.30% a year, below the 0.45% median for its index-tracking peers, on an index reconstituted and rebalanced on a set schedule each June and December.sec.govsec.gov 2
  • Distributions arrive monthly rather than quarterly, a cadence more common among bond funds than equity sector funds.

Worth knowing

  • FTIF A small fund that trades thinly, so spreads can widen. Limit orders matter more here than with a heavily traded name.
  • About 50 holdings means single stocks and sector tilts swing the fund harder than they would in a broad market index.
  • Launched in 2023, so the strategy has a short public record and hasn't been tested across many inflation regimes.
  • HOMZ A small, thinly traded fund. Spreads can run wider than on mega-cap index trackers, and small funds carry more risk of being closed or repositioned.
  • One industry, roughly 100 stocks. Housing moves with mortgage rates and construction cycles, so this can drift well apart from a broad market fund.
  • Cheap for a themed index fund, still a multiple of plain broad-market trackers: SCHK charges 0.03% and VT 0.06%.

How we measure overlap

Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
