Our read on each fund
GIGBA
RJVIC
In short
GIGB Most investment-grade corporate bond funds just buy the biggest borrowers. Goldman's index screens the market on liquidity and fundamentals first, then spreads the money across roughly 1,600 bonds for 0.08% a year.
RJVI Most investment-grade corporate bond funds buy the bond and stop there. RJVI roams the whole capital stack, holding a company's bonds, preferred shares or common stock, wherever the income case looks strongest.
Stated mandate
GIGB The Fund seeks to track the FTSE Goldman Sachs Investment Grade Corporate Bond Index, which measures U.S.-dollar-denominated investment-grade corporate bonds meeting liquidity and fundamental screening criteria.
RJVI The fund seeks current income, with long-term capital appreciation as a secondary objective. It uses a capital-structure-agnostic approach, primarily investing in investment-grade corporate bonds while opportunistically investing in preferred stock or common stock when they offer greater risk-adjusted income potential.
