Our read on each fund
GOVTA
LGOVC
In short
GOVT The plain-vanilla Treasury sleeve. One index fund spanning the full maturity spectrum of US government debt, running since 2012 at five basis points, with none of the credit risk that lives in the rest of the bond aisle.
LGOV Most government bond ETFs just copy an index. LGOV is First Trust's active version: Treasuries plus agency mortgage bonds, deliberately run long, with a mandate to keep weighted average effective duration at eight years or more.
Stated mandate
GOVT The fund seeks to track an index of U.S. Treasury bonds spanning the full maturity spectrum, providing broad exposure to U.S. government debt for stability and income.
LGOV The fund seeks current income while emphasizing capital preservation. It normally invests at least 80% of net assets in investment-grade debt issued or guaranteed by the U.S. government, its agencies, or government-sponsored entities.

How we measure overlap
Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
