Our read on each fund
IJULB
ISEPB
In short
IJUL Most buffer ETFs babysit the S&P 500. IJUL points the same 15% downside cushion at developed markets outside the US, tracking an EAFE index fund up to a cap over a one-year outcome period that restarts each July.
ISEP Buffers are everywhere on the S&P 500, far rarer overseas. ISEP wraps the big MSCI EAFE developed-markets fund and absorbs the first 15% of losses over a one-year outcome period that resets each September, with upside capped in return.
Stated mandate
IJUL The fund seeks to track the return of the iShares MSCI EAFE ETF (EFA) up to a predetermined cap while protecting against the first 15% of losses during the outcome period.
ISEP The fund seeks defined-outcome exposure to the iShares MSCI EAFE ETF (EFA), providing upside participation up to a cap while protecting against the first 15% of losses during the annual outcome period.

How we measure overlap
Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
