Our read on each fund
PFFVB
VRPB
In short
PFFV Most preferred funds hand you a fixed coupon and a lot of rate sensitivity. PFFV screens for variable-rate preferreds only, so coupons reset off short-term benchmarks instead of standing still, at 0.25% a year with monthly payouts.
VRP The preferred fund built on coupons that move. VRP holds mainly floating and variable rate preferred stock and hybrid debt from US corporations, where payouts reset with market rates instead of locking in at issue, and it pays monthly.
Stated mandate
PFFV The fund seeks to provide investment results generally corresponding to the price and yield performance of the ICE U.S. Variable Rate Preferred Securities Index before fees and expenses.
VRP The fund seeks high monthly income, with potential tax advantages, through investments in preferred stock and hybrid debt.
