SPBOAState Street SPDR Portfolio Corporate Bond ETF

UCRDCVictoryShares Corporate Bond ETF

In short

SPBO The whole investment-grade corporate bond market in one ticker for three basis points. Most rivals sell you a maturity slice; SPBO owns the lot, and it undercuts other funds tracking the very same Bloomberg index.

UCRD Most corporate bond ETFs just track the index. UCRD hands roughly 400 investment-grade corporates to Victory's taxable fixed income team, which runs its own credit research instead of leaning on ratings alone. Income is paid monthly.

Stated mandate

SPBO The fund seeks investment results that generally correspond, before fees and expenses, to the price and yield performance of the Bloomberg U.S. Corporate Bond Index.

UCRD The Fund seeks maximum current income while limiting undue risk to principal.

Why people hold it

  • SPBO 0.03% a year against a category median of 0.19%. In bond land, where the yield does the heavy lifting, that fee gap is not a rounding error.
  • Thousands of corporate bonds across the full maturity range, so you hold the broad IG corporate market instead of one duration bucket.ssga.com
  • Same index, very different tolls: KORP charges 0.29%, JLQD 0.35%, JHCB 0.53%. SPBO sits at the cheap end of that list.
  • Running since 2011, pays monthly, and tracks its benchmark about as closely as anything in the investment-grade corporate group.
  • UCRD Actively managed by Victory's taxable fixed income team, with independent in-house credit work behind the names it owns rather than a rules-based index screen.vcm.com
  • Spreads the risk across about 400 investment-grade corporate bonds, so no single issuer drives the fund, and it distributes monthly.
  • What it holds lines up tightly with what its prospectus says: current income from investment-grade corporate credit, with limits on risk to principal.vcm.com

Worth knowing

  • SPBO Full maturity range means long-dated paper is in the mix, so the price moves more when rates move than short-maturity peers like IGSB or SPIB.
  • Corporate credit only. No Treasuries or mortgages to lean on, so the fund rides the health of corporate borrowers as well as the rate cycle.ssga.com
  • Investment grade by design, US issuers only. No high-yield or emerging-market bonds in the basket.
  • UCRD At 0.47% a year it runs well above the category median, and index staples like VCIT, USIG and SPIB charge a small fraction of that. The active credit work is what the fee buys.
  • Thinly traded compared with the category's giants, which can mean wider bid-ask spreads and more price impact on bigger orders.
  • A 2021 launch in the smaller size tier of its peer group, so the track record is shorter than the decades-old index funds it sits beside.

SPBO vs UCRD Holdings

How we measure overlap

Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
