Our read on each fund
VCSHA
ZTREC
In short
VCSH Corporate credit, kept short. VCSH tracks an index of investment-grade company bonds maturing in one to five years, at three basis points: you take company credit risk instead of government risk, with muted sensitivity to rate moves.
ZTRE ZTRE skips the maturity blender. It holds investment-grade corporate bonds with roughly three years left and rebalances monthly, so the three-year point on the credit curve stays the three-year point.
Stated mandate
VCSH The fund seeks to follow a market-weighted corporate bond index with a short-term dollar-weighted average maturity, using index sampling and investing at least 80% of assets in index bonds.
ZTRE The fund seeks to track the ICE 3-Year US Target Maturity Corporate Index before fees and expenses. It is passively managed and normally invests at least 80% of assets in investment-grade corporate bonds maturing in approximately 2.5 to less than 3.5 years.

How we measure overlap
Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
