Our read on BITI
CThe mirror image of a long bitcoin fund: BITI aims to deliver the inverse of the Bloomberg Bitcoin Index's daily move, letting a bearish view be expressed with a normal buy order instead of a short sale.
The Fund seeks daily results, before fees and expenses, that correspond to the inverse of the daily performance of the Bloomberg Bitcoin Index.
Why people hold it
- The mandate is blunt: seek daily results, before fees and expenses, that correspond to the inverse of the daily performance of the Bloomberg Bitcoin Index. One ticker, one job.
- An actively traded fund, which is what matters for a tool designed around daily moves rather than years of buy-and-hold.
- Running since June 2022, so it carries a multi-year live operating record and sits in the upper half of the US bitcoin-derivative funds in its peer group.
Worth knowing
- The objective resets daily. Hold longer and compounding can pull results away from the simple inverse of bitcoin's move over that stretch, especially in choppy markets.
- At 1.01% a year, it prices above ProShares' long bitcoin fund BITO at 0.95%. Inverse plumbing is not cheap.
- It never holds bitcoin. Exposure comes through derivatives, so counterparty and roll mechanics sit between you and the coin's price.

BITI Risk
- 47.4%
How it’s calculated: standard deviation
The sample standard deviation of monthly total returns, multiplied by the square root of 12.
Uses up to 36 complete months, with at least 12 required. Total returns include reinvested distributions.
- −0.88
How it’s calculated: Sharpe ratio
Subtract each month’s Treasury-bill return from the fund’s monthly total return.
Divide the average of those excess returns by their sample standard deviation, then multiply by the square root of 12.
