Our read on CTEX

ETF.net Research

CA tight, roughly 30-stock global basket of companies building clean energy technology, tracking S&P's Kensho Cleantech index. The fee sits mid-pack for the category; the portfolio is far more concentrated than the household names.

Stated mandate

The Fund seeks pre-fee and pre-expense results that track the S&P Kensho Cleantech Index. It invests in financial instruments intended to reproduce the Index’s exposure to companies developing technologies and products that generate clean energy.

Why people hold it

  1. 01About 30 holdings, global reach: the pure-play take on clean energy, aimed at companies developing the technologies and products that generate clean power.
  2. 020.58% a year lands right at the clean energy category median and just under FAN's 0.61%.
  3. 03Rules-based index tracking in a plain 1940 Act ETF wrapper, running since 2021. No manager hunches, no exotic structure.

Worth knowing

  1. 01Roughly 30 names means single stocks swing the fund. The broader clean energy funds spread that risk across many more positions.
  2. 02One of the smaller and thinner-traded funds in the clean energy aisle, so spreads tend to be wider than in the category's biggest names.
  3. 03Diversified rivals ICLN and FRNW charge 0.39%, so the concentrated Kensho build costs more than broad exposure.
