Our read on DVYE
AA 2012-vintage way to own emerging markets for the payout rather than the growth story: roughly 110 high-dividend names from the Dow Jones Emerging Markets Select Dividend Index, 0.50% a year, cash out quarterly.
The Fund seeks to track an index of relatively high dividend-paying equities in emerging markets, providing exposure to dividend-focused emerging-market stocks.
Why people hold it
- Charges 0.50% a year, below the typical fee among emerging-markets dividend funds, and has grown into a multi-billion-dollar fund.
- Sticks close to the Dow Jones Emerging Markets Select Dividend Index, which is the entire job description for an index fund.ishares.com
- Income lands quarterly, not once a year, so the payout arrives on a predictable schedule.
- Trading since 2012 and one of the stronger implementations in its emerging-markets dividend peer group.
Worth knowing
- A yield screen is a filter, not a diversifier. About 110 stocks means country and sector mixes can look nothing like a broad emerging-markets index.
- Cheaper shelf-mates exist in the same niche: Franklin's DIEM runs 0.19%.
- You get paid in dollars, but the companies earn in local currency. Emerging-market swings and exchange rates both show up in the price.
