Our read on EIPX

ETF.net Research

CFirst Trust hands the wheel to Energy Income Partners: an actively run, global energy book of roughly 80 names chasing risk-adjusted total return, not an index snapshot of whoever pumps the most barrels.

Stated mandate

The Fund seeks risk-adjusted total return.

Why people hold it

  1. 01Actively managed rather than index-tracking, with a stated goal of risk-adjusted total return. A manager picks the energy names, and can pass on the ones it doesn't like.
  2. 02Roughly 80 holdings. Concentrated enough that the manager's calls actually show up, broad enough that no single pipeline or utility runs the show.
  3. 03The mandate is global, so the portfolio isn't fenced into US energy names the way many sector funds are.
  4. 04Pays on a quarterly cadence and has built a mid-sized asset base since its 2022 launch, which is real staying power for a niche sector fund.

Worth knowing

  1. 010.95% a year is specialist-active pricing, meaningfully above the typical active US equity ETF. You're paying for the stock picking, so it has to earn its keep.
  2. 02It trades lightly compared with its peer group, so entry and exit costs deserve more attention than with a mega-cap fund.
  3. 03This is one sector, start to finish. Energy moves on commodity cycles and policy, and the whole portfolio rides that wave together.
