Our read on HRTS
DMost health care ETFs buy the whole hospital. HRTS buys the cardiology and metabolic wing: roughly 40 companies that must earn at least half their revenue from treating heart or metabolic disease.
The Fund seeks long-term growth of capital and invests at least 80% of its assets in publicly listed companies deriving at least half of their revenue from cardiovascular- or metabolic-disease treatments.
Why people hold it
- Real purity screen: at least 80% of assets sit in companies drawing half or more of revenue from cardiovascular or metabolic disease treatments. No insurers or dental chains riding along.
- Roughly 40 stocks, so every name carries weight. This is a targeted position on heart and metabolic medicine, not a sector index with a theme sticker on it.
- The portfolio matches what the prospectus promises closely, which is not a given among thematic funds. What you read in the mandate is what shows up in the holdings.
- Launched in 2023 as one of the earlier US funds built purely around the heart and metabolic disease complex, an area usually buried inside broad health care baskets.
Worth knowing
- Specialist pricing: 0.99% a year, against single-digit basis points at broad sector funds like VHT and XLV. That gap is the toll for the curated 40-stock screen.
- Narrow by design. One disease cluster, about 40 names, so it can swing on trial results and pipeline news rather than drifting with the health care sector.
- A small, thinly traded fund. Spreads tend to be wider than at the sector giants, which matters most on large or hurried orders.
