Our read on KEMX
BEmerging markets with the China slice cut out. KEMX has tracked the MSCI Emerging Markets ex China Index since 2019, roughly 300 stocks, so China becomes a separate decision instead of a built-in one.
The Fund seeks to track the price and yield performance of the MSCI Emerging Markets ex China Index. It normally invests at least 80% of assets in securities or instruments corresponding to that index.
Why people hold it
- Does what the label says: normally at least 80% of assets in securities matching the MSCI Emerging Markets ex China Index, and it has hugged that benchmark closely.
- About 300 stocks spread across the emerging world, so no single name steers the fund.
- Running since 2019, which means a multi-year live record rather than a fresh launch built for the ex-China moment.
Worth knowing
- The fee is 0.59% a year, above the 0.49% typical for emerging-market funds, and ex-China rivals VEXC (0.07%) and XCEM (0.16%) charge a fraction of it.
- It trades thin. Bid-ask spreads can add cost the expense ratio never shows, especially on larger orders.
- Distributions land once or twice a year, not monthly, so any income arrives in lumps.
