Our read on LMUB
BMost muni funds hand you the whole maturity curve. LMUB takes only the long end: investment-grade national municipal bonds maturing in 12 years or more, indexed, for 0.09% a year.
The fund seeks to track an index of investment-grade U.S. municipal bonds with maturities of at least 12 years.
Why people hold it
- Charges 0.09% a year against a 0.30% median for muni funds, so more of the tax-exempt coupon stays with shareholders.
- Not a broad fund with a long tilt. The ICE AMT-free index it follows holds only national munis maturing in 12+ years, roughly 800 bonds deep.
- Pays income monthly, and cost plus index discipline put it among the stronger builds in a crowded muni field.
Worth knowing
- Long maturities cut both ways: 12-year-plus bonds swing harder on rate moves than short or intermediate muni funds.
- Launched in 2025, so the track record is short and the risk picture rests on limited history.
- Whole-curve muni funds go cheaper (VTEB and SCMB at 0.03%). The 0.09% here buys the long-only slice, not broad coverage.

LMUB Risk
- 5.5%
How it’s calculated: standard deviation
The sample standard deviation of monthly total returns, multiplied by the square root of 12.
Uses up to 36 complete months, with at least 12 required. Total returns include reinvested distributions.
- −0.14
How it’s calculated: Sharpe ratio
Subtract each month’s Treasury-bill return from the fund’s monthly total return.
Divide the average of those excess returns by their sample standard deviation, then multiply by the square root of 12.
Uses up to 36 complete months, with at least 12 required. Each month uses the Treasury yield quoted at the end of the previous month.
- −6.4%
How it’s calculated: maximum drawdown
The largest percentage decline from an earlier peak, using total returns with reinvested distributions.
